When I found a beautiful apartment in Rome, I was convinced it was the right one. Honest price, top location, nice seller.
But a consultant told me, "Let's do a mortgage survey first."

Holy counsel. The records showed a foreclosure transcript: the former owner had debts, and the apartment was involved in legal proceedings. No one had told us.

Without that simple check at the Land Registry, I would have thrown time and maybe even money into a years-long lawsuit.
I didn't buy that property, but I bought peace of mind. And I found another one, really free.
